Passengers barred from bringing items in ‘commercial quantity’ from abroad

Goods brought from abroad would be considered for commercial use if they are worth more than $1,200
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Monday imposed a complete ban on passengers bringing goods from other countries to Pakistan in “commercial quantity”. 

The tax collecting authority issued a notification regarding an amendment to the Baggage Rules 2006.

The notification said that recommendations on amendments can be made within seven days, adding that they will not be accepted after the stipulated period.

According to the notification, passengers will only be allowed to bring one mobile phone from abroad for personal use while other phones will be confiscated. 

Meanwhile, goods brought from abroad would be considered for commercial use if they are worth more than $1,200, said the FBR. 

The FBR, in the notification, said that the additional items will not be released on payment of duty, taxes and redemption fine.
